ANNE SAGEWOOD, MFT

Anne Sagewood, MFT My therapeutic experience involves working with individuals struggling with such concerns as depression, stress, anxiety, childhood trauma, grief and loss. In addition to individuals I also enjoy working with couples helping to improve communication and coping skills. For the past three years, I have facilitated an ongoing grief/support group and have over 8 years experience working with individuals struggling with addiction. I have maintained a private practice for over 15 years.

I believe that each person’s overall momentum is towards self integrity, health and wholeness; I see my job as helping to facilitate that process. Through empathy and a genuine interest in the person I am able to provide a space for the individual to begin accessing their own curative attributes. Through my experience I have also learned that health, wholeness, and self integrity can also come in the form of acceptance of the condition and where one is in their life currently. I work collaboratively with the individual to discern what is in need of acceptance and what within them is in a transitional process.

In working with clients, I apply a cognitive approach which draws upon two theoretical models, the Relational Model and Buddhist Psychology. Sessions are characterized by active listening and discussion which are focused on the present. Experiences are explored bringing to light patterns of thinking and feeling. This process informs the client of the nature of their reality and the part s/he plays in creating it. From this realization can come motivation and movement toward a more choiceful and less reactive life.
